For Today. For Tomorrow.
For Future Generations.

Kolping Azubi- und Jugendwohnen offers affordable accommodation and socio-educational support to young people between the ages of 16 and 26 in training throughout Germany, regardless of nationality, religion, gender or sexual orientation. As the need for affordable housing for these people is constantly growing, we want to meet this need as quickly as possible with the new building in Berlin-Mitte. And with your support.

The New Kolping House

BERLIN-MITTE: Sustainable and Inclusive

It is not time to watch and let things happen, it is time to act. It is time to act, and for everyone, without distinction, as best they can according to their strength and means.

Kolping Youth Housing provides a home to over 1,000 young people nationwide.

KOLPING YOUTH HOUSING – 16 HOUSES IN 12 CITIES – ONE HOME.

We are the interface between the parents, the training companies / vocational schools and the trainees. This prevents premature drop-outs and promotes a successful apprenticeship.

Apprentices in Berlin

There is a shortage of apprenticeships in the areas surrounding Berlin compared to the capital, especially in the eastern part. In rural areas and small towns, training places are scarce or lacking altogether, while Berlin offers a wealth of opportunities.

Living in Berlin on a tight budget

Many young people are therefore forced to move to Berlin to start an apprenticeship. However, finding accommodation in the capital is becoming increasingly difficult, especially for young people who only have a trainee’s salary.

Apartment-Hunting with Obstacles

This inequality not only impairs the career opportunities of young people in the surrounding area, but also hampers the economic development of the regions.

Almost No Chance

The high demand for affordable housing and the short supply make the search challenging. In addition, many landlords preferolder tenants, which further reduces the chances of young people finding a home.

Affordable Living for Young Apprentices –
APPRENTICE HOUSING IN BERLIN-MITTE OFFERS PAYABLE LIVING SPACE

To counteract this problem, we have started to build trainee housing in Berlin-Mitte. By creating modern, affordable living space in the immediate vicinity of training facilities, we offer young trainees the opportunity to find accommodation and receive educational support.

An Innovative Living Concept

The modern residential building extends over six floors and offers a total of 104 furnished single rooms, including eleven low-barrier and two wheelchair-accessible rooms, all with their own bathroom. Each floor has a communal kitchen for cooking and socializing. There are also communal rooms for learning, meeting, socializing and playing.

Indoor – & Outdoor -Activities

A highlight of the building is the spacious leisure area, which offers both indoor and outdoor activities.

A large garden invites you to play sports, relax and take part in communal activities.

Multifunctional spaces

A seminar room is available for meetings and workshops.

There is also office space for the employees of the Kolping Society Diocesan Association Berlin and the trainee and youth hostel.

Why should you donate to Kolping Jugendwohnen in Berlin-Mitte?

YOUR DONATION FOR KOLPING APPRENTICE AND YOUTH HOUSING BERLIN…

… CREATES COMMUNITY
And FRIENDSHIP

Your donation creates a place where young people between the ages of 16 and 26 can meet, make new friends and share common interests. The core idea of Adolph Kolping – helping people to help themselves – is still practiced here today through competent educational support and assistance.

… SUPPORTS SUSTAINABLE AND INCLUSIVE CONSTRUCTION

Being involved and participating in social life is essential. With your help, not only will living space be built, but the new building will be furnished in such a way that it enables maximum independence for residents – even those with disabilities. Barrier-free and modern.

… STRENGTHENS
THE REGION

As a supporter, you are helping to strengthen the economy of the eastern German region and give young people career prospects. With your donation, young people can have access to affordable housing that meets their needs and complete an apprenticeship in a foreign city that is not available where they live.

… SHOWS SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Your donation helps to promote equal opportunities by giving young trainees the same opportunities regardless of their social or economic situation. Your donation helps young people to prepare for a successful future, allowing them to focus on their education.

Donate for the New Building in Berlin-Mitte:

Your donation offers the opportunity to make a contribution to the future of our country and to support young people. Generous donors are invited to our topping-out or inauguration ceremony and have the opportunity to get in touch with other supporters, project managers and trainees.

We also offer a commemorative plaque for major donors that honors you as a supporter. This plaque is made of high-quality material, individually engraved and attached to the object of your donation so that it is clearly visible. It can be attached to benches, in rooms or in common areas.

Donors become part of our exclusive celebrations and publications and even our building.

Become part of our new youth residence building with your donation! We are planning a donor stele on the building with the names of our biggest supporters. Your name will remain visible for generations to come.

Kolpingwerk Deutschland:
We enable affordable living space

Kolping Logo
With over 200,000 members, the Kolping Society of Germany is one of the largest Catholic social organizations in Germany. It is consciously committed to responsible and solidary cooperation in society. Inspired by its founder Adolph Kolping, who offered support to wandering journeymen in the 19th century, the Kolping Society still stands by people in difficult life situations today. Its activities focus on working with and for young people, a broad range of voluntary work in the world of work, cooperation with and commitment to families and the One World. The work that the social association carries out locally in around 2,100 Kolping Families and youth groups throughout Germany is accompanied and supported by numerous companies as well as social and educational institutions with more than 10,000 employees.

In line with its objectives, the social association, together with its legal entities, the Deutsche Kolpingsfamilie e.V., the Katholisches Gesellenhospitium e.V. and the Gemeinschaftsstiftung Kolpingwerk Deutschland, creates affordable housing and offers young people in training a contemporary range of affordable housing at twelve locations with a total of sixteen houses. The special feature: Competent educators are available on site to accompany the young people on their path to adulthood. In this way, the Kolping Society makes an active and sustainable contribution to helping young people successfully complete their training and build a self-determined life for themselves.

Gefördert durch die Aktion Mensch
Aktion Mensch is supporting the accessibility of the new Kolpingjugendwohnen building in Berlin-Mitte with an investment grant of 250,000 euros – including eleven low-barrier and two wheelchair-accessible rooms, each with its own bathroom. This funding is made possible by the participation of around four million people in the social lottery. As the largest private funding organization in the social sector in Germany, Aktion Mensch is committed to projects that improve the living conditions of people with disabilities as well as children and young people and strengthen inclusive coexistence in society. We would like to thank Aktion Mensch for this valuable support.

Progress Updates

Progress on the new Kolping trainee and youth residence building in Berlin-Mitte

The construction of the Kolping trainee and youth residence building in Berlin-Mitte took great strides in August. The basement walls were successfully constructed and backfilled in the same week. This was followed shortly afterwards by the completion of the basement ceiling, allowing the construction to progress rapidly.

By September, we had already reached the first floor. The shoring beams were installed and the facade was finally inspected by the Kolping team together with the team of architects. The final material samples were selected and checked to ensure that the façade meets the requirements both aesthetically and functionally.

With great optimism, we plan to complete the residential building in the first half of 2026, providing 104 apprentices with a new home in the capital.

For the continued progress of construction, especially the interior furnishings, we remain dependent on donations. Every contribution helps provide young people with a safe and affordable place to stay during their training.

In the spirit of Adolph Kolping, who always had the well-being of young people in mind, this project is a crucial step in offering apprentices a secure and affordable place to live during their training.

Every bit of support helps us achieve this goal and provide young people with a stable foundation for their professional journey. Together, we are implementing Kolping’s vision of providing opportunities and perspectives for young people.
